Nursery
From just an acre of land in 1925, our nursery has grown to about 100 acres made up of land in Old Rydon Lane, Exeter, and Clyst St. Mary. Much of the land is intensively cropped with nursery stock and the remainder is put aside to allow crop rotation of roses, trees and fruit trees.
The nursery in Old Rydon Lane is the centre of the enterprise and is home to open ground and container grown fruit trees and herbaceous, greenhouses, a propagating department and our very own micro-propagation unit. The nursery was the first commercial hardwood nursery in the world to embark upon the micro-propagation of its stock.
Our rose field relocated to the main nursery in 2010 having previously being located at Clyst St Mary. We will be running a series of rose field tours on Friday 15th & Saturday 16th July at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm. Visitors on the Friday will have the opportunity to see the rose budding procedure in action. If you would like to wander through thousands of roses then please turn up at the Old Rydon Garden Centre for the above times.
We are proud to have been growers of beautiful plants for over 85 years and our customers will always find a wonderful range of quality home-grown plants in our garden centres.
We guarantee all our plants to be healthy and true to name and type. If any of our hardy plants or trees should fail within 12 months of purchase, provided they have been properly planted and cared for, we will be pleased to offer a free replacement under our 1 year hardy plant guarantee.
Occasionally we offer tours of our nursery. Keep an eye on our events page or subscribe to our newsletters for further information.
